How to dry and store solid cosmetics
Water-used shampoo and body-wash bars need to drain and dry between uses. Keep solid perfume and body butter clean, cool and away from heat. One sealed box is not the same solution for every product.
In the bathroom: separate drying from storage
- Rinse remaining foam off the shampoo or wash bar after use.
- Put it on a draining dish or rack away from the direct shower stream.
- Empty water collected beneath it. If the bottom stays wet, change the position or holder.
- Put the bar in a sealed travel tin only once it has had a chance to dry.
What does each product need?
| Product | Priority | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Shampoo and body-wash bars | Drainage and a chance to dry. | Standing water and sealing a wet bar. |
| Solid perfume | A clean closable tin and a cool place. | Direct sun, a hot car and wet fingers. |
| Body butter | A cool place and package instructions. | Heat and unnecessary contact with water. |
While travelling
Let a water-used bar dry before leaving. If you must pack it damp, take it out and let it dry when you arrive. A tin is useful for transport, but does not itself guarantee drying.
Pack products separately from belongings you want to keep clean. Being compact does not mean a butter or balm cannot soften in heat.
If a product softens
Move it somewhere cooler and let it set. This alone does not establish that it is undamaged: if the package has leaked, the product is contaminated, or its smell or appearance concerns you, take photographs and contact us. Do not heat the product to restore its shape.
Shelf life and care
Check the specific package for shelf life and storage instructions. A single general duration does not fit every formula. Clean your dish and tin periodically and let them dry.
